The Mississippi State Bulldogs open their season against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels in the opening round of the 2k Classic.
After a couple of contraversial seasons, Bulldogs coach Rick Stansbury is hoping for an incident free season as he looks to guide his squad back to the NCAA tournament. Unlike last year, when the Bulldogs started the season missing their two best players, Standbury will have a full squad to work with this time around. The Bulldogs only return two starters, however those two players in Dee Bost (15.3 ppg) and the contraversial Renardo Sidney (14.2 ppg) are the top returning scorers for the Bulldogs. Add in highly regarding UTEP transfer in Arnett Moultrie, along with a top 15 recruiting class and the Bulldogs have all the peices to return back to the NCAA tournament.
The Colonels come in off a disapointing 2010-11 season, which saw them suffer their first losing season since 2007. Eastern Kentucky do lose three of their top four scorers from last season, however their is an air of optimism around this young Colonels outfit that only has one senior on it's roster in Joshua Jones, who will be heavily relied upon this season. The Colonels will be inexperienced, however one thing we do know is that they will live and die by the three point shot again. The Colonels have led the Ohio Valley Conference in three-pointers made for three straight years now.
The Bulldogs are 5-11-2 ATS in their last 18 home games and just 1-12 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games. The Colonels on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games, but just 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall.
