Perth Wildcats big man Luke Nevill set to take on Sydney Kings

THE Wildcats say centre Luke Nevill is "likely to play" in today's clash with the Kings after scans revealed no damage to the big man's achilles.

Nevill withdrew from Perth's training session on Friday morning after about 30 minutes and sat in the WA Basketball Centre stadium seats, icing his left footThe Wildcats refused to rule out the 218cm linchpin and sent him for scans yesterday, with the results showing no damage and suggesting pain in the area was just lingering soreness from a weights session earlier in the week.Perth assistant coach Shawn Dennis said Nevill was likely to line up against Sydney today, with his height crucial in shutting down Kings dominator Julian Khazzouh, who leads the league in scoring (19 points) and rebounding (10.4).

"He certainly walked out after having the scans without a limp and trained quite well this morning; the whole squad trained quite well," Dennis said."One of the things about Sydney is they're quite big, particularly when (203cm Jerai) Grant and Khazzouh are on the floor together, so his size will definitely help us to combat that and their rebounding in particular."The Wildcats will have a rugged combination of their own to throw at Sydney, with Nevill likely to tag-team with Matt Knight in a battle of the talls.

Knight is in outstanding form, averaging 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds a game, while shooting at 53.1 per cent in a season that has been incident-free after an injury-riddled 2010-11 campaign.A former teammate of Khazzouh at the now-defunct West Sydney and Sydney Spirit clubs, Knight said he would relish the chance to go head-to-head with a man he labelled the one of the league's best.- http://www.perthnow.com.au
