The season starts in October and ends in April the following year. The KBL consists of 10 teams. Each team plays 54 games (27 home games, 27 road games). Leicester Riders ready for Worcester Wolves test

Leicester Riders coach Rob Paternostro is relishing the chance to face one of the BBL's best teams.
Riders, who have lost only once in six regular-season games and are fourth in the table, travel to face second-placed Worcester Wolves on 28 December.
Wolves lie second in the league table with an 8-2 record.
Paternostro said: "Worcester are playing great basketball. They have a nice mix and are a team that likes to play together. Confidence is high."
Riders have not played since mid-December when they coasted to victory over Durham.
"After the long break we are looking forward to getting back on the floor and competing again," Paternostro added.
"This will be our fifth league road game out of seven played and if you can get results on the road it can put you in a good position for the league."- http://news.bbc.co.uk/

Kings open season with 100-91 win over Lakers
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP)—For Sacramento fans, just seeing their Kings on the court was a victory after all the talk of moving at the end of last season.Beating the hated Los Angeles Lakers in the season opener only made it sweeter.Marcus Thornton scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and the Kings beat the Lakers at home for the first time in more than three years, 100-91 on Monday night.
“It was nice to be back,” coach Paul Westphal said. “It was wild in there and our players really liked the feeling of that game. The fans were just fantastic.”

Tyreke Evans added 20 points, John Salmons had 13 and DeMarcus Cousins had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings, who had lost nine of 10 to the Lakers and five straight at home.
“It’s not a rivalry,” Kobe Bryant said. “We beat them every year. Oh my God. I don’t care if they beat us tonight. I like (Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof). I hope they enjoy this.”
Bryant scored 29 points and Metta World Peace added 19 for the Lakers, who opened the season with consecutive losses for the first time since 2002-03, putting a damper on the start of new coach Mike Brown’s tenure.“We have a lot of games left, a lot of games left,” World Peace said. “Everything is going OK. Everything will be great.”Kings rookie Jimmer Fredette entered to a loud ovation midway through the first quarter and then committed a double dribble the first time he touched the ball.

Otherwise, it was nothing but a positive start to the season for the Kings, who didn’t even know if they would be in Sacramento after ending last season with an overtime loss at home to the Lakers.
But the city got a reprieve when the team decided to stay for at least one more season instead of moving to Anaheim. That has led to newfound optimism that an emerging roster of young and athletic playmakers can return the Kings to prominence and the city can build a new arena to keep the team here for the long term.
“These fans are unbelievable,” newly acquired forward Chuck Hayes said. “I thought they were loud on TV. I thought they were loud as an away player and I think they’re even louder as a home player. It was just a great moment.”

The game was especially satisfying for Hayes, who got a major scare earlier this month when he failed a physical because of a heart abnormality. He then went to see specialists at the Cleveland Clinic and was cleared to play, leading the Kings to sign him once again. Hayes had seven points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes.
“‘Chuck Hayes is the glue of this team,” Westphal said. “We knew he would be the glue when we signed him and he shows it every day. It was a phenomenal effort for Chuck with what he’s been through.”
The Kings went on an 11-0 run around halftime and then put together a strong finish to the third quarter led by Cousins. Playing with four fouls, Cousins scored eight points in the final 3:20 of the third to give Sacramento a 78-64 lead heading into the fourth.Thornton scored seven of the Kings’ first nine points of the fourth as Sacramento maintained its lead. But six straight points by World Peace helped the Lakers cut it to 89-87 with 4:24 to play.- http://sports.yahoo.com

Lega Basket Serie A is the highest level club competition in Italian professional basketball where play determines the national champion. The season consists of a home-and-away schedule of 30 games, followed by an eight-team playoff round. Quarterfinals and semifinals series are best-of-five, and the finals series is best-of-seven. The bottom two clubs are relegated, and replaced by the top team from the regular-season phase and the eight-team playoff round winner of the second-level Legadue. The Italian League is one of the 3 "A" level ranked European domestic leagues in the ULEB League Rankings system.

Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna is an Italian League professional basketball club, based in Bologna. Virtus returned to Italy's top division for the Serie A 2005-06 season after two years in the second division.

Golden State Warriors vs L.A. NBA BASKETBALL 12/266 11:30AM GMT+8

New-look Clippers ready for opener

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. -- The new-look Los Angeles Clippers aren't as ready as they'd like to be for Sunday's Christmas Day tilt against the Golden State Warriors, their 2011-2012 shortened season opener.
But they say they're as prepared as possible considering the circumstances.

"We're just as ready as we could be," superstar forward Blake Griffin said Saturday after the Clippers' final preseason practice. "I think we're ready to play.
"But we've had our guys for about a week now. So we obviously need more time."
Said point guard Chris Paul, acquired last week from New Orleans: "We have to be ready. Nobody cares whether you are or you're not. When they throw the ball up, you have to be."

The Clippers play the Warriors at 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN, the fifth and final game in a holiday chock-full of NBA action. It's the second Christmas Day game in the last 19 years for the franchise.
Paul, beginning his seventh season in the league, has played in one previous game on the holiday, in 2008 with the Hornets. He lost that game, 88-68. Saturday, he provided vivid details of the outcome and said the loss stuck with him. Getting the chance to play on the day again, he said, was big.
"I always looked at it as Christmas Day is the games that the fans want to see," Paul said.
Since the NBA lockout officially ended earlier this month, the Clippers added Paul and veterans Chauncey Billups and Caron Butler, inserting all three into their starting lineup alongside Griffin and newly-extended center DeAndre Jordan.

Paul maintained it would take him some time to feel as comfortable with his new teammates as he did toward the end of the six-year stretch he spent with the Hornets.- http://espn.go.com

L.A. Lakers Chicago Bulls NBA BASKETBALL 12/26 6AM GMT+8

Chicago brings back virtually the same team that ended the 2010-11 regular season with the best record in the league before getting eliminated by the Miami Heat in the playoffs.  The Bulls made a major investment in their future when signing star point guard Derrick Rose to a lengthy contract extension in the offseason.  “Our goal is to win a championship,” Rose commented this week.  “I have a lot of believe in my teammates.”  He finished last year averaging 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game.  Chicago is 14-15 ATS in December the last two-plus years.

The Bulls made another key move in the offseason in signing shooting guard Richard Hamilton, who brings them experience at the position.  Chicago was missing a player to join Rose on the perimeter, making him a great fit.  “He’s been a premier catch-and-shoot player in the league for a long time,” stated Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau.  Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah are a touch matchup for any team inside, making this squad dangerous during the 2011-12 campaign.

Los Angeles has tallied a 34-17 record in home openers since moving to the West Coast and will be playing its 13th straight Christmas Day game dating back to 1999.  Surprisingly enough, the Lakers are just 4-8 in the previous 12 tries on December 25th.  A lot has changed in the offseason and everyone will be watching star Kobe Bryant on the court, who is listed as questionable with a wrist injury, while also getting divorced during the offseason.  “I’ve never quite seen something like this unfold,” stated Bryant this week about the tumultuous offseason.  Los Angeles is 17-24 ATS on Sundays the past two-plus seasons.- http://www.madduxsports.com

Dallas Mavericks vs Miami Heat 12BET NBA BASKETBALL 12/26 3:30AM GMT+8

— Just when the Dallas Mavericks appeared to figure out that it takes interior defense as well as outside firepower to win a championship, they go and scrap that successful formula.
The Mavericks, who upset the Heat in six games in the NBA Finals in June, let defensive-minded center Tyson Chandler sign with the New York Knicks and then added versatility and offense by acquiring Lamar Odom and Vince Carter.

Dallas certainly will be exciting as it attempts to defend its title starting Sunday against the Heat. But could this be a repeat of all those years of 50-plus wins and post-season flameouts?
"Tyson Chandler was the anchor of their defense," said Hall of Fame guard and NBA analyst Magic Johnson. "And now he's gone."
Most of the core of the club that went 57-25 in the regular season and 16-5 in the playoffs returns.
Forward Dirk Nowitzki, who averaged 27.7 points in the post-season and was the Finals MVP, guards Jason Kidd and Jason Terry and forward Shawn Marion now welcome to the nucleus Odom, Carter and Brendan Haywood (who replaces Chandler in the starting lineup).
The biggest addition is Odom.
"When you have his type of versatility, there is not one team that he can't fit into right away," Heat forward LeBron James said Saturday.
Odom, who spent one season with the Heat, averaged 14.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season while shooting a career-high 53 percent from the field for the L.A. Lakers.
He was traded twice after the lockout ended with the first deal, which would have brought Chris Paul to the Lakers, being vetoed by the league.
The Lakers then shipped him to Dallas for an $8.9 million trade exception.

Dallas plans to use Odom (6-10, 230 pounds) off the bench. With Odom and Terry in reserve, the Mavs have two of the top "sixth men" in the league.
"They certainly will be unique when you add a player like Lamar," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.
But while Nowitzki, Odom and Marion form what coach Rick Carlisle says may be "the best forward trio in the league," a lot will fall on the shoulders of the 7-foot Haywood. He is an 11-year veteran who averaged 4.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 18.5 minutes a game for Dallas last year.-http://www.palmbeachpost.com/

New York Knicks vs Boston Celtics NBA BASKETBALL 12/26 1AM GMT+8

Boston won its fourth consecutive division title following a 56-26 regular season. The Celtics swept New York out of the first round of the playoffs before losing in five games to Miami.
Boston also swept the four-game regular season series.Despite not winning one game between the two, the Knicks believe talent-wise they can compete with Boston, having added Tyson Chandler to a team that already included forwards Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.

Chandler brings some needed defensive energy to New York. The Knicks, who went 42-40 last season, were 28th in the league in scoring defense, giving up 105.7 points per game. While coach Mike D'Antoni has long been known for his high-scoring offenses, the team is preaching defense entering the new season.
"I feel like if we're as committed as we say we are to winning a championship and really going after that dream, then we'll be committed on the defensive end, because that's the only way you can get it done," said Chandler, who averaged 10.1 points and 9.4 rebounds last season to help Dallas win a championship.
Maybe no team stresses defense more than Boston, which gave up a league-low 91.1 points per game last season.

However, New York may be in good position to overtake Boston with Chandler joining Stoudemire and Anthony to provide the Knicks with arguably the league's most talented frontcourt.
Anthony concedes that comparisons could be made to the way this New York squad is built and the way Boston's "Big Three" of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen won an NBA championship in 2008.
"We have a chance to do some big things," he said. "Boston did a great job of guys coming together at the right time in their careers. A lot of things weren't going their way, but they came together as one and they won a championship."

Anthony averaged 26.3 points in 27 games for the Knicks after his trade from Denver. He underwent offseason surgeries on his left knee and elbow.Stoudemire dealt with back issues last season but was still a force, averaging 25.3 points and 8.2 rebounds. A tight NBA schedule could be tough on him, but he said the long lockout may help.- http://msn.foxsports.com/
